There are too many reasons to collect arms and their
related accessories to cover them all here, but certainly among the many would
be: Knowledge, The appreciation of mechanical and artistic achievement,
historical significance, , the "Thrill of the Chase", pride in ones
collection, and of course the investment angle.
The reasons to join a collecting organization are also many: to gain
knowledge, to make friends and associate with people with a mutual interest, to
assist in promoting the growing interest in collectable arms, to protect your
"Right to keep and bear arms" to enhance your own collection, the
satisfaction of assisting other members and the public to understand the
historical development and usage of arms.
Our members can take pride in the reputation and achievements of the
organization. The Colorado Gun Collectors Association and many of our
individual members have garnered many awards for their excellent and educational
exhibits. We have earned several honors from the NRA and local civic
organizations. In union there is strength and by joining and becoming
active in a collecting group we have a bigger voice when it comes to opposing
unwise and unfair firearms legislation.
The C.G.C.A. has an open membership for collectors over the age of
twenty-one. We also have junior memberships available. The Annual
dues are $25.00 per year with a $10.00 initiation fee upon application.
Life memberships are available after a person has been a member in good standing
for five consecutive years. The cost of life membership is $150.00 unless
an applicant is over 65 in which case the fee is $100.00. It is not
necessary to be a Colorado resident, in fact over 20% of our members reside
out-of-state.
It is necessary to have two sponsors for membership (Any member in good
standing, or any NRA Director or Field Representative). Sponsorship is not
necessary if an applicant is currently a member of any recognized collecting
organization.
Upon application an applicants name and home state is published in our monthly
newsletter as a prospective member. An Application is then voted upon by
the membership in attendance at the following monthly meeting. Upon
acceptance the new member will receive by mail membership documents, members
handbook, and other information from the secretary. In addition to other
benefits any member in good standing is entitled to one free competitive display
table at out annual show. We invite you to join our association and assist
in the interest of collection and preservation of a small part of our American
heritage.
